2010 PKV Commonwealth Essay Competition

School children from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd won Bronze Awards in the

Commonwealth Essay Competition. They were presented with the PKV Commonwealth

Essay Prize for Welsh Schools at the Senedd on the 6th October 2010 by Lord Elis - Thomas,

the Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales and Honorary President

of the Royal Commonwealth Society of Wales. The film production company Tinpolis

filmed the ceremony and this was broadcast on S4C's show "Wedi 7" on the 11th October 2010.


 

 

Cardiff wins bid to host CLGF's 2011 conference

Cardiff has won the honour of hosting a major international summit in 2011 which will be attended by  heads of government and senior local government decision-makers from across the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Games is held every four years. The last Games were held in Melbourne, in 2006. The next Games will be held in Delhi in 2010. The Commonwealth Games known as the Friendly Games sees 71 countries compete over a two week period. In 2006 5,766 athletes and officials competed in 16 sports.

In the future there will be 17 sports including up to 4 team sports. Each edition of the Games will include 10 core sports, Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Boxing, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Squash, Weightlifting.
